depressing day in world cup history
We went to Trocadero near the Eiffel to watch Brazil ostensibly beat The Netherlands in the quarter finals for the world cup. I fell super hard for Brazil this time around--addicted to watching their telepathic team work, effortless air ball game, and exquisite goals. I joined the rest of the world in falling in love with Robinho and Kaka. In Paris the Fifa Fan Zone was packed with people most notably cheering for Brazil and when the first goal was scored by Robinho the crowd went out of control crazy. Brazil dominated the first half and it seemed clear that they would win. It started pouring rain during half time in Paris and everyone ducked for cover. The rain cleared just in time for the second half and after that rain everything had changed. Brazil scored on themselves from a corner kick by the Netherlands. Then Brazil fell apart and lost it. They had so many opportunities to win and they couldn't pull it together. After that unshakable loss we decided to stick around for the 830pm game of Ghana vs. Uruguay. This is the farthest Ghana had ever made it to the world cup and since they were the only African team left the whole continent was rooting for them. The Fan Zone had about 2000 people cheering for Ghana. . It was an emotional game and everyone was dancing and playing music and when the second "almost" goal was scored it turned into a mosh pit. But soon everyone realize they lost the goal because Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez had swatted the ball out of the goal with his hands. Ghana was so close so close so close. We couldn't believe it when during the shoot out another team we had fallen in love with was out of the tournament. Who to root for now? hearts are broken. if Ghana and Brazil had both won they would have played each other and it would have been the best game ever.
